Liverpool v Everton Tip

Two of the Premier league's draw specialists meet in a sure-to-be feisty Merseyside derby.

At a time of year when you sometimes wonder if some teams will be getting a little half-hearted, we can dismiss any such concerns for the Merseyside derby.

Everton are all set to finish above Liverpool in the league table for the second year running, but that superiority has rarely been reflected in this fixture. The Toffees haven’t won any of their last 12 league visits to Anfield, dating back to 1999, and the Reds are also unbeaten in the last five anywhere in all competitions.

This explains why Brendan Rodgers’ team are nothing longer than evens (Coral) to take three points this afternoon. It explains it, but it doesn’t make it right. Given that Everton are arguably the better team, odds of 15/4 (StanJames) on the away win are tempting.

However, I’ll go instead for a draw at the best price of 13/5 with Bet365. David Moyes’ boys have shared the spoils a Premier League high eight times away from Goodison this season and they have held their own against almost all the big boys.

Everton have already drawn at the Etihad, the Emirates and White Hart Lane in 2012-13. A second Merseyside stalemate of the season looks on the cards here.
