FA Cup Replay: QPR v MK Dons

QPR should stop the rot

Two divisions higher with home advantage; surely Hughes will start with a win at Loftus Road

No rocket science required here, Premier League QPR simply look great value at 10/11 (Coral) to beat League One MK Dons in a Loftus Road FA Cup replay.

I can only assume that the top flight side aren’t shorter odds for a couple of reasons - neither of which unduly trouble me. Firstly, and remarkably, the Hoops haven’t won an FA Cup match for 11 years. That is indeed a wretched run, but history will have little bearing on the outcome of Tuesday night’s match. QPR were a lower league team for all of that period but they have Premier League quality in their ranks these days.

Results of previous years are largely irrelevant when all the players involved are different. Of course, the manager in charge is now new as well. Mark Hughes takes to the dugout at his new home for the first time and that should give the natives a real lift. Poor recent results for the hosts will be the other reason for the generous odds, but that was under Warnock, not Hughes. The clean slate that comes with a new boss is usually invaluable, at least in the short term.

Milton Keynes will surely live to regret giving up a 1-0 lead in the 89th minute of the first match when their opponents were also down to 10 men. That was their big chance. QPR should now show their quality and book a rare spot in round four in the replay.
