Euro 2016 Group A Tips: Albania 1-2pts

Albania are not going to take the tournament by storm but games against Switzerland and Romania give them a chance to earn a result or two.

The quality gap between France and the rest of Group A looks huge but the battle for second and third spot should be competitive.

The bookies see Switzerland as the best of the rest, followed by Romania, but Albania seem likely to pick up 1-2 points at odds of 6/4 with Bet365.

Entering their first ever major tournament, Albania ought to be delighted with a draw which gives them at least a glimmer of hope. They even beat Les Bleus in a friendly last June!

That seems hugely unlikely to happen again but they can realistically pick up draws against either or both of the others. Albania beat Portugal away at the start of qualifying and drew twice with Denmark who they finished above.

Romania’s lack of goals meant they drew in qualifying with mediocre sides such as Hungary (twice), Greece and Finland. As for the Swiss their group made them look decent but they were soundly beaten by England twice and haven’t done much since to suggest they are anything special.

In conclusion, the rank outsiders Albania lack goals, but they can defend well on good days and should head home with the odd highlight to look back upon.
