Goal Gluts Still Not Coming

Nine matches in a row at Euro 2016 have produced under 2.5 goals and the bookies are wrong to think Albania will change all that.

The fine margins in football have been there for all to see in this first week of the Championship. France needed individual brilliance in the 89th minute to win their opening game while 10-man Albania were only denied by great goalkeeping.

The other thing we have seen is a high level of competitiveness with no pushovers. Following the surprise Iceland result, the last nine matches have also witnessed under 2.5 goals and we should back that trend to continue at 11/10 with Betfair Sportsbook.

If you exclude matches against group whipping boys Armenia, every completed Albanian game in qualifying also produced under 2.5 goals. That includes fixtures against credible opposition - Portugal, Denmark and Serbia.

The underdogs even beat France 1-0 in a friendly last June. That surely won’t happen again but the bookies are wrong to presume the hosts will run amok here.
