Championship Top Goalscorer Tip: Matty Fryatt

Fryatt: A regular scorer at this level.

Last year we struck gold with Ricky Lambert. This time we favour another striker ready to prove he is more than a journeyman.

The battle to be top scorer in the Championship in 2012-13 looks wide open with the bookies favouring Jordan Rhodes (16/1 Bet365) at the top of the betting. The Huddersfield star may find life tougher than in League One, but if he does remain prolific then the Premier League will surely come calling by January. Either way, not much good for this market.

Looking further down the list you find a never-ending stream of players who have question marks against their names for various reasons. It therefore seems the perfect time to take a punt on a long shot; Matty Fryatt fits the bill nicely at best odds of 40/1 with Betfred.

The Hull striker was prominently among the top scorers last term with 16 league goals for the Tigers. Most encouragingly, he finished 2011-12 like a train finding the net five times in his final three outings at the KC Stadium, including a hat-trick against Barnsley.

At 26-years-old Fryatt is right at his peak, although he showed his eye for goal most spectacularly in 2008-09 when notching 32 times in all competitions for Leicester in League One.

Now under the tutelage of Steve Bruce, this could be another standout season for the man from Nuneaton. The new boss has just signed 6ft 3in target man Nick Proschwitz to play alongside Fryatt and his aerial presence could be crucial. Back Fryatt to reap the rewards at 40/1 (Betfred) each-way, with quarter odds paid out if he finishes in the top four scorers in the division.
