Championship Antepost Tips: Top Goalscorer - Steve Morison

One of the division's top scorers in 2009-10 and 2010-11, this 29-year-old returns to the club where he enjoyed great success.

In 2012-13 Glenn Murray followed an indifferent first season at Selhurst Park to emerge unexpectedly as the Championship’s top scorer for Crystal Palace. Now, at similarly long odds, another south London outfit could hit the jackpot with Steve Morison. The Welsh international returns to Millwall, where he previously enjoyed great success, and he looks a bargain at best odds of 80/1 with BetVictor.

The 29-year-old has done the business at this level before having bagged 20 goals in 43 league appearances for the Lions in 2009-10 and 15 goals in 40 league games the following campaign. Morison could actually be a better striker than back then however having gained valuable top flight experience for Norwich in the intervening years.

The all-action striker found the net nine times in the Premier League in 2011-12, not a bad haul by any means, and he was perhaps unfortunate to fall out of favour last term resulting in a loan move to Leeds. He is now back at the Den on a season-long loan where I suspect he will be a perfect fit again.

Morison is a proven marksman having notched an impressive 147 goals in 359 career league games. My only concern would be that Norwich might realise what they are missing and recall the forward halfway through the season. But the Canaries have seemingly moved on, and at 80/1 he is well worth the risk with an each-way bet paying out at quarter odds if he finishes in the division’s top four scorers.
