Allardyce got his first win on Saturday

Three decent sides who won at the weekend are longish odds just because they are away on Tuesday. The result is a great value treble.

Tuesday night looks like a unusually bad time to be at home with several of the travelling sides brim full of early season confidence. West Ham, Middlesbrough and Hull all won way at the weekend and I see no reason why they can’t repeat the trick in midweek.

Leeds United inspire two of our three tips, but for all the wrong reasons. It seems a little early to be talking about a ‘crisis club’ but the Elland Road outfit have all the credentials needed to become just that. Well beaten by Southampton on the opening day, Simon Grayson’s men then slumped to a desperate 1-0 home reverse to Boro on Saturday.

The scoreline only flattered Leeds who had two men sent off while the fans directed their anger at owner Ken Bates. Such significant discontent is unlikely to be eased very quickly and Yorkshire rivals Hull can take full advantage on Tuesday. The Tigers went on a club record 17-match unbeaten away run at the end of last season and showed that pedigree again to win at Portman Road on Saturday. Odds of 5/2 on another three points for Pearson’s men look massively generous.

The Hull manager’s former club Boro will be buoyed by their successful trip to Elland Road. The Riversiders have actually won four away games on the bounce extending from the end of last season. The feel-good factor has been cranked up a further notch by the decision of long-time fans’ favourite Julio Arca to re-sign for the club. The Argentine left when his contract expired in May but has since performed a welcome u-turn.  Boro will surely expect to win again at Oakwell where they face a Barnsley side who have’t even scored in three games so far this season. A 2-0 home defeat to Morecambe in the Carling Cup won’t have helped morale.

The final part of our treble backs West Ham to continue the momentum gained by triumphing 1-0 at Doncaster. The Hammers were probably the better side in their opening defeat against Cardiff as well, but Sam Allardyce will be relieved to be off and running now. Watford should be obliging hosts after they lost 1-0 at home to Derby at the weekend. The Hornets haven’t yet recovered from the dual loss of Malky Mackay and Danny Graham; West Ham should have too much firepower for them here.
