Bruce favourite for the sack

From being a rank outsider at the start of the day Steve Bruce has been gambled in as favourite to be the next to leave his post.

With the news that Avram Grant is safe for the rest of the season the knives are out for the next man. This afternoon has seen an astonishing surge of bets for Steve Bruce to be the next Premier League Manager to lose his job. A rank outsider at 66/1 with Victor Chandler at the start of the day he is now 6/1 with the same firm where as he is a remarkable 6/4 favourite with Skybet to lose his job.

Sunderland are currently riding high in the Premier League and Steve Bruce is regarded as having a good relationship with his board, only enhanced by his team’s strong showing. Numerous wild theories abound: unhappy at the sale of Darren Bent, victim of the shock FA Cup exit or even his upset at the recent crowd trouble.

All crazy theories. Darren Bent handed in a transfer request at the start of the season so that is fairly old news to Steve Bruce. The FA cup exit is seen more as a blip since League form is still good and I don’t know where to begin with the last rumour.

What isn’t in dispute is that someone is backing him with the bookmakers and we are in the middle of silly season so who knows what will happen.
