Brighton v Liverpool Tip

Both have weaknesses in defence that should be exploited. Home advantage for the Championship side makes them difficult to split.

A fascinating third round tie in the Carling Cup sees high flying Brighton take on Liverpool. The Seagulls are unbeaten at their new home, the Amex stadium, and having knocked out Sunderland in the last round they will relish another shot at a Premier League side.

After a promising start to the season Liverpool have suffered disappointing defeats and have plenty to prove again. Bolstered by the return of Steven Gerrard, the Anfield outfit should be strong in attack but it is their defence that has been the weak link. Questions are being asked about the previously untouchable Jamie Carragher and for all their attacking flair, Lucas is the only ball winner in midfield. Having scored at least two goals in four of their nine matches this season, Brighton should be confident of exposing the flaws.

Don’t expect the Championship side to have it all their own way. Kenny Dalglish signalled his intent in the previous round by fielding a strong XI against Exeter. With Suarez and/or Carroll leading the line the Reds carry a goal threat.

It is hard to split the teams in what should be an entertaining game live on Sky Sports. With both teams better going forward than in defence, a high scoring draw is the play. Take the 16/1 with Boylesports on a 2-2 draw.
