Bayern Munich v Marseilles Tip

The home of Bayern Munich

Bayern have effectively already won this tie. They just need to see out the second leg without picking up suspensions or injuries.

This tie is already over, but the bookies have priced it up as if Bayern Munich need to win. At 2-0 up heading back to the Allianz Arena, the Bavarians only need to see out the job in a professional manner. The priority for the Germans will be predominantly to avoid costly bookings that would mean suspensions for the near-certain semi-final showdown with Real Madrid.

Six of the home players - Toni Kroos, Philipp Lahm, Thomas Mueller, Jeroeme Boateng, David Alaba and Luiz Gustavo - are one yellow card away from a ban. Jupp Heynckes is planning to play at least some of these stars to ensure that the job isn’t taken too lightly. But it seems inevitable that Bayern will simply be coasting having already done the hard work.

Marseilles remain in turmoil but Didier Deshamps will be determined that his side at least exit the Champions League with some pride intact.

We saw in the group stages that Bayern can falter when the pressure is off; they lost 2-0 at Manchester City. It should be better than that on home soil but odds of 2/7 (totesport) on a Munich win on the night have to be opposed in the circumstances.

A second leg draw that passes off without damaging bookings would surely suffice the hosts. At best odds of 21/4 with BetVictor, it surely has to be the value bet as well.
