Basle v Man Utd Tips

Rooney 4/1 for the first goal

The Red Devils have won four of the last five in the league 1-0. It's what they do best.

It’s very easy to become boringly efficient when choosing the best bet for Manchester United, but that’s because boring efficiency is what they do best. BettingBias found the value successfully on Saturday by recommending Ferguson’s boys as the ‘only team to score’ against Villa. We could do a lot worse than following that exact same bet again for Wednesday’s trip to Basle (7/4 Bet365).

Another reasonable option appears to be United to win 1-0 at best odds of 7/1 (Bet365). That has been the outcome in four of their last five Premier League games; it is very much the result of choice these days.

In contrast, the Red Devils have just seemed a little careless in the group stages of the Champions League so far this season. The 2-2 home draw with Benfica and the 3-3 at Old Trafford with Basle in September would have had Sir Alex pulling his hair out. The precarious nature of the group standings should ensure a more disciplined performance this time.

Now last year’s finalists are in a situation where they need a point in France to secure a spot in the knock-out phases. They won’t risk playing for a draw but a clean sheet will be seen as of paramount importance. Yet again it’s hard to see United winning with much to spare however. Javier Hernandez has been the primary goal threat in the league recently, and he is sidelined for a month with an ankle injury.

Wellbeck and Rooney are capable of doing the job up front, although neither have scored a league goal in over two months. Rooney has continued to fire in this competition at least, and he’s 4/1 (PaddyPower) to break the deadlock here. I don’t see a better value bet than United to win 1-0 however - a 7/1 shot with Bet365.
