Stubborn Sri Lanka Deny England
The second Test ended in a draw after the tourists avoided the late collapse that cost them the first match.
Lightning failed to strike twice as Sri Lanka salvaged the draw under late pressure from England at Lord’s in the second Test. Alistair Cook rattled off yet another century, this time ably assisted by Kevin Pietersen (72) and Ian Bell (57no) as England declared on 335-7 in their second innings. This set Sri Lanka 343 to win, or more realistically, 58 overs to survive. A repeat of the dramatic final day in Cardiff briefly looked on when Kumar Sangakkara was dismissed for just 12 but the World Cup finalists steadied the ship to end on 127-3 when the captains shook hands.
England may feel frustrated by the rain but it’s Sri Lanka who now need a result in the final Test, trailing as they do 1-0. Both teams now head to the Rose Bowl in two weeks’ time with England 8/13 to win that match according to skybet. Sri Lanka are 8/1 with bet365 to level the series and the draw is 21/10 with Coral.
