Ireland Shock England in Cricket World Cup

At one stage Ireland were 100/1 but a magnificent century from Kevin O'Brien saw them successfully chase 328 runs.

Ireland produced one of the biggest ever cricketing shocks to chase down a target of 328 runs and beat England at the World Cup.

Most of the focus will be on how England’s World Cup dream lies in tatters but that would be doing a massive disservice to Ireland who played beautifully.

At 111-5, victory for England seemed a formality with Boylesports offering 100/1 on Ireland winning. What they didn’t expect was Kevin O’Brien hitting the World Cup’s fastest ever century, he was eventually run out for 113 off only 63 balls. A quick fire 34 from John Mooney helped Ireland over the line and complete the World Cup’s highest ever run chase, winning with five balls to spare.

On betting exchange, Betfair, £10million was traded on England winning the game at odds of 1.04 or lower. Leaving some punters looking as glum as Andrews, Strauss and Flower.

England are by no means out of the World Cup, but they are on the drift in the betting, Blue Square offer odds of 12/1. For Ireland this was their World Cup final, but if they can recreate the magic again they are 500/1 with Coral to win the tournament.
