Injury Dents India’s Chances

Zaheer Khan injury worry

England finished the day on 127-2 but it is the injury to Zaheer Khan that has had the biggest impact.

The draw is now 4/9 after rain curtailed the first day’s play at Lord’s. Having won the toss, India put England into bat and will be disappointed to finish with only two wickets. In seamer friendly conditions India were unable to make inroads, with Jonathan Trott the pick of the batsmen unbeaten on 58.

The bigger concern is the hamstring injury to left-arm seamer Zaheer Khan. Forced off the field midway through his 14th over, the bookmakers do not like India’s chances without him. The tourists are out to 14/1 to win the first test and 3/1 to win the series.

England have been cut to 5/6 to win the series, a bold move with only half a day’s cricket completed.
