India v England Tips: Top Series Bowler

Record on the subcontinent is far superior to that of his team-mates and the pitches will be prepared for spinners.

With the Indian team looking so strong, I’ve focused my analysis on the England side because there’s likely to be much larger disparities in terms of individual performances.

The pitches on the subcontinent generally favour spinners and with Monty Panesar unlikely to make the starting line-up, the path is cleared for Graeme Swann.

England Bowling Record

*Sub-continent figs. last 5 years only for Tests in India, UAE and Sri Lanka.

England’s premier spin bowler has suffered a slight dip in form over the past 12 months but there is no doubting his credentials on a turning pitch. Over the last five years he averages 5.29 wickets per match on the subcontinent, over two wickets more than James Anderson. In a four match series, Graeme Swann can be expected to take nine wickets more than the fast bowlers.

With such a large advantage he can even afford to miss a match and still win the market. Graeme Swann looks a rock solid option to be England’s leading wicket taker in the series at 15/8 (Paddy Power)
