A rain-affected first day of Test cricket left the bookies already backing the draw.
Cardiff showers delayed the start of England’s Test summer and when play finally got underway the hosts were to be frustrated. A couple of late wickets finally restored some balance to the day’s play as the tourists closed on 133-2. The odds on England getting off to a winning start have drifted to 2/1 with Boylesports. Perhaps the potential threat of more rain has led the bookies to make the draw most likely at 5/6 with bet365.
Sri Lanka are still 11/2 outsiders despite compiling an opening stand of 93, with Paranavitana left unbeaten on 56. Captain Dilshan was finally bowled by Graeme Swann before James Anderson had Sangakkara caught behind.
