England Romp to 4-0 win over India

England won by an innings again

The newly crowned best team in world cricket finished the job in style at the Oval

Graeme Swann took six wickets as England secured a famous whitewash series win over India at the Oval. The tourists looked like they were showing some very late resistance when Amit Mishra and Sachin Tendulkar put on a stand of 144 to temporarily frustrate the expectant crowd. However, even many of the home supporters had mixed emotions when Tendulkar fell on 91 to a marginal lbw decision - just nine runs short of what would have been his 100th international hundred.

It proved to be the same old story of the summer as India crumbled from 262-3 to 283 all out; England didn’t need to bat again as they won by an innings and eight runs. Stuart Broad was named as England’s Man of the Series, in a hugely competitive category, as he excelled with bat and ball. Rahul Dravid won the prize for India, although very few of his team-mates emerged from the series with any credit whatsoever. It was good news for the BettingBias cricket tipster who had Dravid to top score for his side before the series began at odds of 9/2. In the end he won that bet with alarming ease.

England now focus on the faster formats of the game with a one-day international against Ireland coming up on Thursday in Dublin. The Irish are 5/2 (PaddyPower) to repeat their World Cup triumph, with England 4/11 with WilliamHill. Rivalries then resume against India with a Twenty20 match at Old Trafford on August 31. Both sides are currently 10//11 with Sportingbet.
