England Crash to Another Defeat
The batsmen, with the exception of Jonathan Trott, continue to let down the bowlers.
Another England batting collapse handed Sri Lanka the first Test in Galle and ensured a fourth consecutive defeat for Andrew Strauss’s struggling side. Chasing 340 to win, England looked to be on target when they reached 233-4; Jonathan Trott was well on his way to his 112 at that point. But the dismissal of Matt Prior prompted the fall of the final six wickets for just 31 runs.
Sri Lanka now cannot lose the two-match series and they are 2/1 to win 2-0 or 5/4 to win 1-0 - both with Boylesports. The same firm go a best price 11/5 that England can salvage some pride by levelling the series 1-1. The second Test begins in Columbo on 3 April.
