Cricket World Cup Betting: England Arrive

The first big game of the Cricket World Cup lived up to it's billing as England and India tied.

England have been cut from 10/1 to 15/2 in the Cricket World Cup betting after a thrilling tie with India. Needing two to win off the last ball, Graham Swann could only manage a single, but a tie was probably a fitting end to a game that both teams could have won and lost.

Chasing a daunting 339 to win, England were looking good at 281-2, but a flurry of wickets during the last power play meant England needed 29 from the final 12 balls. With defeat beckoning, some lusty sixes from the lower order helped England reach parity.

According to the bookmakers, the result did little to dent India’s chances and they remain 11/4 favourites for the World Cup.

Andrew Strauss is now 3/1 favourite to be the tournament top batsmen, his excellent 158 gives him a 36 run lead over Virender Sehwag. The England captain was a pre-tournament 40/1 to be top batsman.
