Cook and Trott Overwhelm Sri Lanka
England are now the only team who can realistically win the Test match. But the draw remains odd on.
Unbeaten centuries from Alistair Cook (129) and Jonathan Trott (125) steered England away from any potential trouble and kept faint hopes alive of an unlikely victory. The pair put on a 240-run partnership to leave Strauss’s side on 287-2, just 113 behind Sri Lanka with eight wickets in hand.
The big problem the Ashes’ winners have is that day four is no time to be playing this phase of the match. With Cardiff showers a frequent feature of this opening match, England are still 10/1 to triumph with PaddyPower. The draw is seen as a near-certainty at a best price 1/14 with Coral. Bet365 conclude that a win for Sri Lanka is now inconceivable, at 200/1.
