Nadal Loss Shakes up the Betting

Andy Murray the big mover as Rafa Nadal bows out of the Australian Open.

It seems an odd thing to say at the semi final stage of a Grand Slam but the draw has opened up for Andy Murray; well that is certainly what the bookmakers think.

With an injury stricken Nadal beaten in straight sets by David Ferrer the Australian Open outright betting has been turned on it’s head. Roger Federer is now a best price 6/5 with Sportingbet to retain the Australian Open having been as big as 2/1 prior to Nadal’s defeat.

Earlier in the day bookmakers were unimpressed by Andy Murray’s victory in four sets over the unorthodox Alexandr Dolgopolov and he remained unchanged at 5/1 to win the tournament despite advancing to the semi-finals. That all changed once Nadal was removed from the equation as bookmakers moved quickly to slash Murray to 2/1 second favourite.

Novak Djokovic plays Federer in the other semi and is a 9/2 shot with Boylesports. David Ferrer is the outsider of the quartet at 16/1 with Sportingbet to win his first Grand Slam.
