Mr Invincible

Novak is unstoppable.

Novak Djokovic has played 37, won 37 in 2011. When will he be beaten?

Novak Djokovic continued his remarkable 2011 with a 6-4 6-4 victory in the final of the Rome Masters over world number one Rafa Nadal. The Serbian had been pushed all the way by British number one Andy Murray in Saturday’s semi-final, before triumphing 6-1 3-6 7-6 (7-2). It was assumed that he would then be exhausted for his tussle with clay supremo Rafa Nadal, but he responded with a straight sets victory.

Djokovic is now setting his sights on the all-time record for matches unbeaten set by Guillermo Vilas in 1977. The Argentine went 46 consecutive matches without defeat, but the current world number two is on a run of 39, all but two of which have come in this calender year. Having won the Australian Open in January, the Serb is now just 9/1 with PaddyPower to complete the full set of Grand Slams in 2011. The French Open is next on that particular list, starting next week.
