Federer Climbs Back into World's Top Two
The 16-time Grand Slam champion now has Novak Djokovic in his sights.
Roger Federer is best price 9/1 (PaddyPower) to win the French Open which starts on 27 May after returning to number two in the world. The Swiss star pushed Rafa Nadal down to third spot after defeating Tomas Berdych 3-6 7-5 7-5 in the final of the Madrid Open.
Nadal remains favourite for Roland Garros (evens Boylesports) despite exiting the latest Masters event in the third round. Both he and world number one Novak Djokovic (15/8 PaddyPower) have threatened to boycott the tournament in future if the blue clay surface remains.
In the women’s game, Serena Williams became the new favourite for glory in Paris at a best price of 3/1 with Ladbrokes. The feisty American looked close to her best in overwhelming Victoria Azarenka 6-1 6-3 in Madrid.
It was a reality check for the current world number one who’s been eased to 4/1 (BetVictor) for the French Open.
