Dubai Bye Djokovic

Murray Impressed

Andy Murray became the first man to defeat the world number one in 2012 on Friday.

Andy Murray became the first tennis player to beat world number one Novak Djokovic this year in the semi-finals of the Dubai Championships. The Brit triumphed 6-2 7-5 to partially avenge the five-set defeat to the Serbian at the Australian Open in January.

Bet365 and BetVictor reacted to the result by cutting Murray’s odds to win Wimbledon this year; the world number four is a best price of 13/2 with Betfred to triumph at the All-England Club this summer.

Before that, the world’s best will test themselves on clay at the French Open which begins at the end of May. Six-time champion at Roland Garros, Rafa Nadal is favourite for the next Grand Slam at 5/4 (Coral).

Djokovic is 13/8 (bodog) to win in Paris while Murray is still out at 16/1 (WilliamHill). Given how well the Scot has competed against the Serb recently, that looks like a huge discrepancy.
