If Murray starts at all slowly then he might not come close to a break for a little while.
Andy Murray may be hot favourite to progress to the quarter finals at SW19, but he should expect a bombardment on Monday afternoon.
The headline news about Ivo Karlovic is that he’s served 136 aces in the tournament already but it’s first serve percentage which really gives him hope against the Scot.
Karlovic 1st serve % in round by round: 61%, 72%, 76%
Murray 1st serve % in round by round: 65%, 57%, 64%
What we can see is that it’s the 6ft 11in Croatian who not only has the power but is growing ever more accurate. In the last two rounds he has reached peaks which Murray can currently only dream of in this respect.
It’s these numbers more than the ace statistics which lead me to back Karlovic to break serve first in the match at best odds of 4/1 with Ladbrokes. In a two-horse race, this is a great price.
