Verdict: In the doldrums since the 2007 World Cup Final the appointment of Martin Johnson has seen some slow but steady progress in the last two years. The blooding of young talent has produced some excellent results with wins over Australia home and away. But defeats against New Zealand and South Africa in the Autumn test show they still need to improve.

Not won a Six Nations Championship since 2003 and the talent hasn’t always delivered the results you would expect. Have tricky away games in Wales and Ireland but Martin Johnson will be expecting a strong showing from his team to build momentum going into the World Cup.
