Look North

Wales are the big movers in the betting after snatching victory at the Aviva. England win but don’t convince and are on the drift.

The best was saved until last, as the Six Nations dished up its first three-course meal. France were predictable winners in the opening contest, but Italy showed enough to suggest they won’t be the whipping boys this season. Les Blues remain unchanged at 6/4 favourites with Sportingbet.

The Calcutta Cup match introduced new faces but the older rivalry failed to thrill. In an error-strewn game, the result became everything. England were delighted with the victory but Scotland see it as another opportunity lost. The bookmakers took a dim view of the contest lengthening both teams for the championship. England are out to 5/1 (Sportingbet), half a point more than a week ago.

Wales escaped from the Aviva stadium with a victory that barely seemed possible with four minutes to go. Ireland’s revenge mission went unfulfilled, leaving Wales strong contenders for the title. Warren Gatland’s men are 7/4 (Betfred) to win the Six Nations having been 7/2 at the start of the weekend. A Triple Crown is very much on the cards at 5/4 with Betfred.
