Brown Can Tear Down Italy

A constant attacking threat in the back line. Carried 17 times for 93 metres last week beating four defenders.

It’s early days in the 6 Nations championship but there is enough data floating about for us to pick up some value in the betting markets.

Last year we delved beyond simple tryscoring statistics to find the players who were doing everything but score.

To score a try you need to carry the ball, gain some metres and usually beat a defender. These actions don’t always result in a try but if a player is making the right moves a score will eventually follow.

It was a tactic we employed successfully with Mike Brown and the England full-back has popped up on our radar again.

6 nations line breaks

Of the players who averaged at least 5 metres per carry, no one carried the ball more frequently than Mike Brown.

The Harlequins player is nominally a full-back but he gets through plenty of work and is often found in attacking situations. Last week he beat four defenders and carried for 93 metres; playing at home to the worst team in the tournament I’d be surprised if he didn’t better those statistics.

Mike Brown is 8/5 (Paddy Power) to score a try anytime against Italy and that looks cracking value.
