Euro 2012 Group D Betting: Ukraine

Ukraine: Carry the hopes of a home nation.

A few worrying friendly results mean the co-hosts need to go up a level if they are to contend on their own patch.

Ukraine
Odds to win group: 5/1 (Skybet)
Odds to qualify: 7/5 (Skybet)

Home disadvantage?
Ukraine will hold few fears for two of their Group D opponents who won there in 2011; France inflicted a 4-1 defeat in Dontetsk before Sweden came and left with a 1-0 victory. The co-hosts are 11/5 (StanJames) to lose to Sweden and 5/4 (Betfred) to get nothing out of Les Bleus.

Worrying dip in form?
It’s hard to know what to make of friendlies but after 4 straight defeats last year, things were looking up for a few months. But after defeats this month to Austria and Turkey - 2 teams not good enough to qualify - one wonders if Ukraine would have missed out as well. They are 2/1 (WilliamHill) to get under 2 points from the initial round-robin phase.

One last hurrah?
There may be a changing of the guard for Ukriane with Andriy Yarmolenko now the man expected to get the most goals for his country at 11/2 (WilliamHill). But at 35-years-old, perhaps Andriy Shevchenko will show why he has legendary status one last time. He is 10/1(Bet365) to top score for the co-hosts.
