Southwell Tip: Moonraker
Course and distance record is 191319 and has won in this grade at Southwell. Better than bare form having raced on wrong side of track last time. Draw not been kind but smaller field and attractive mark make him a bet.
The 3.20 Southwell is a fascinating contest. You have the young upstart, Hareem Queen who is 2/2 at the track but facing a step up in grade and with little return for the risk. Samovar has never been up to this level and his pulls down horses in this field through the same form lines.
That leaves Foolaad and Moonraker who have been successful in this grade at this track but haven’t shown much of late. Of the pair i’m siding with Moonraker having backed him on his last start.
He finished ninth but ran ok from what turned out to be a poor draw. He’s got another high number again but i’m more optimistic given the small field, hopefully Ali Rawlinson can manoeuvre him into contention.
A mark of 83 is very workable considering he won a class 2 handicap over course and distance in February off 88. His course and distance record is 191319 but he is capable of bouncing back at a good price.
