Sandown Racing Tips: Wymott

Wynott?

His two pulled-up efforts are forgivable. Finished 6th in the Hennessy and still looks well handicapped.

I admit to having reservations about the joint favourites in the 3.10 at Sandown. Master Of The Hall can be a sketchy jumper and although improved he still wasn’t fluent when winning at Aintree. He has never earned a speed rating anywhere near his official mark and these factors are enough to put me off.

Hold On Julio is only having his fifth race under rules at the age of nine. He has spent most of his career point to pointing and the betting is all based on his victory at Sandown in November. I need more evidence before piling in at 7/2.

Last season Wymott would have been favourite for a race like this but having been pulled up in two of his last three starts, the betting public have deserted him. I think excuses can be made. He seemed to resent the cheek-pieces applied for the RSA Chase, an experiment that hasn’t been repeated. He then pulled up in desperate ground at Haydock, when trainer Donald McCain said he wasn’t suited by the heavy ground.

Sandwiched between those races was an encouraging 6th place in the Hennessy. The ground was almost too quick for him that day, but he ran well to finish only 6.75 lengths behind Carruthers.

Only 8-years-old, there is plenty of time for Wymott to improve; he has won 6 of his 13 career starts and looks overpriced at 10/1 with Bet365.
