Sandown Tips: Kingsgate Native
Unlucky second in the race last year and doesn’t have to carry a penalty this time round.
Kingsgate Native is a bit of a head case but he’s a talented performer on his day and Robert Cowell knows how to get the best out of him.
The 9-year-old is easily agitated and doesn’t like big crowds, therefore the 5f chute at Sandown is ideal as it’s marooned in the middle of the racecourse away from the hubbub of the grandstand.
He was an unlucky runner-up in the race last year and off a 6lbs lower mark he should go well.
He finished second behind Sole Power on his seasonal debut and ran creditably on unsuitable soft ground at Haydock when third in the Temple Stakes.
He’s never been beaten by more than 3.5 lengths when wearing a hood and is a good bet at 7/1 (Ladbrokes).
