Sandown Tips: Joe Packet
Has the best draw and last time he raced over course and distance he won by 3 lengths.
Sandown’s 5f track has one of the biggest draw biases in the country, therefore my focus is on the horses drawn low.
Joe Packet has the plum draw in stall 1 and he’s shown enough this season to suggest he can capitalise on his sliding handicap mark.
Two starts back he ran a fine race to finish third at Nottingham even though he was severely disadvantaged by the way the race unfolded. The two front-runners managed to bag the favoured stand’s rail and were never headed but Joe Packet was easily best of the rest.
Jonathan Portman’s six-year-old is generally regarded as a 6f sprinter but the last time he tackled 5f at Sandown he ran out a comfortable 3-length winner. If he can repeat that level of form from stall one, he will be hard to beat.
