Sandown Tip: Cardinal

Drop back in trip shouldn’t inconvenience him. Recently run well in strong races.

Three weeks ago we were desperately unlucky when Damika finished second at Sandown, but it proved that six furlong specialists can perform well over this five furlong chute.

The sprint track at Sandown is straight uphill and when the ground is riding on the soft side, as it is today, the stamina of a six furlong sprinter is an asset. Cardinal has a similar profile to Damika so let’s hope for better luck this time round.

Cardinal has been competing in class four events and acquitted himself well. A fifth and a third in his last two starts, reads even better when you consider the strength of the fields. Five horses have run again since those races, three of them winning. The times of Cardinal’s races were good, backing up the assumption that they were strong races for the grade.
