Sandown: Blue Jack

Former Listed winner who looks revitalised by a change in yards. His best form is on stiff tracks.

I’m assuming the traditional draw bias will reappear in the 5.00 Sandown, therefore I have focused my attention on the horses drawn low.

Kellys Eye, Generalyse and Macdillon have enjoyed the best of the draw but all three are infrequent winners. Instead, I’ve gone for Blue Jack who has a reasonable draw but is proven at a higher level.

A former Listed winner with Tom Dascombe, he rather lost his way last season but the switch to Stuart Williams seems to have rekindled his enthusiasm.

He’s run a series of good races on the all-weather this winter including when an unlucky fourth on his last start. Racing at the back of the pack, he came with a storming late run, but left himself too much to do.

A return to turf should bring further improvement and Sandown looks the ideal starting point. He’s won two of his four starts at the Esher track and saves his best for stiff tracks. At 4/1 he looks the best bet in the race.
