Ripon Tip: Damika

Loves the track and has been running better than his recent form suggests.

Damika is a horse I’ve been waiting to back since May and he finally has his conditions in the 3.45 at Ripon.

On the face of it his form looks inconsistent but this horse is an out and out six furlong performer; so you can scratch his last three efforts. Ignore his first run of the season, which he always needs, and focus on his run at York in May. Drawn against the unfavoured nearside rail, he was the best of those drawn high. He eventually finished three lengths behind Hoof It a terrific performance considering that horse went on to win the Stewards’ Cup.

The key to Damika is six furlongs below class two level. Since his three-year-old days his record when facing these conditions and ignoring his first run of the season is: 291113.

His record at Ripon is also excellent with two wins and two runners-up spots in five visits. The highlight of these being last year’s win in the valuable Great St. Wilfrid handicap.

With plenty of pace drawn around him, his jockey needs to follow the likes of Pepper Lane and Celtic Sultan. There is a strong chance the field will split and if they race on the far side of the track, often the quickest part, a draw of five will be perfect.
