Paddy Power Gold Cup Tips: Quantitativeeasing

Only six-years-old, his trainer will have improved him over the summer whilst his handicap mark remained exploitable.

The Paddy Power Gold Cup (2.35 Cheltenham) often goes to a horse with a bit of class, and that elusive quality is what I am looking for. At only six years of age, Quantitativeeasing has his best days ahead of him and I’m hoping one of them will be on Saturday.

His standout performance last season came at the Cheltenham Festival in the new novices’ 2m4f race. Giving Divers 7lbs was just too much as he lost by 2.75 lengths in a battling finish. Rated 139 that day, he races off 142 in the Paddy Power, after 201 days off the track; considering his age, Nicky Henderson is sure to have improved him more than 3lbs. Of all the horses in the field, his looks the best handicapped.

Much has been made of the fast start Paul Nicholls has enjoyed to the season, but Nicky Henderson is more than matching him. At the time of writing, seven of his last ten runners have won and he has an incredible 47% strike rate in November.  At the current odds, 20/1 (Bet365) is more than generous and I recommend backing him each way with ¼ odds for a top four finish.
