Steel Train will need to run a career best to win the 3.45 Newcastle but he’s perfectly capable of defying a mark of 95 given the form he is in. On his last three starts he has finished 213 and was a massive eye-catcher at Chelmsford.
After missing the break, he was held up in rear but that proved to be the worst position as Aaron Jones gave Pactolus an excellent front-running ride, with his pace distribution almost perfect.
Steel Train was forced to come from too far back, but he clocked the fastest closing sectional despite not getting a clear run through the pack.
That came over a mile and this afternoon he steps back in trip to 7f, which look his optimal trip.
