Newcastle Tips: Shyron

Newcastle Tips: Shyron

Ran a rapid 21.78s sectional two starts back and just failed by a short-head. Different track but is in form.

The 4.30 Newcastle is an excellent race and showcases what can be done when there is decent prize money on offer. Claims can be made for several of these (four are last time out winners) but I’m siding with Shyron.

The 6-year-old is something of an all-weather stalwart with 6 wins from 20 starts but it’s his style of racing that captures the imagination. Used to racing in rear, he has a devastating finishing burst but he is a hostage to fortune because he needs a strong pace and gaps to weave through.

Last time out he flunked at Southwell but it was his first start on the Fibresand and he didn’t handle it, so draw a line through that run. A better indication of his talents was his short-head second place at Lingfield, when he came with a withering run from the rear but just failed. His closing sectional of 21.78s was the quickest in the race and fast in absolute terms but it’s not the first time he’s dipped below the 22s barrier.

The imponderable is whether he can recreate his Lingfield form at Newcastle but horses can close form the rear, especially if there is a strong headwind.
