Newcastle Tips: Ninety Years Young

Newcastle Tips: Ninety Years Young

Returns to 6f for the first time since his win over the trip in November.

Connections have been experimenting with Ninety Years Young’s trip and have finally reverted to what I believe to be his optimum distance – 6f. This is the trip of his one and only win and since then he’s been running like a horse in the wrong race.

Last time out at Lingfield, Shane Kelly attempted to make all but got the fractions wrong. The pace he set was too strong, especially given his dubious stamina and Ninety Years Young folded in the final furlong.

When racing over 5f at Chelmsford, he struggled to go the early pace before running the fastest closing sectional of the contest by 0.31s. Here we have a horse who hasn’t got the speed for 5f, or the stamina for 7f but has won at 6f. It seems rather obvious what he needs.
