Newcastle Tip: Hazelrigg

Hazlerigg Better With Blinkers

A reformed character and unlucky on his last two runs. His jockey travels to Newcastle for his only ride of the evening.

After winning only one of his first 17 starts, Hazelrigg was written off as a rogue. A perennial dodger, his career was going nowhere. Step in Tim Easterby with a set of headgear and everything changed.

The application of eye-shields and blinkers made him a reformed character; notching up three wins in ten races last season. The positive effect has lasted into 2011 and he is a horse no longer to avoid.

A good fifth place at York was achieved racing from an unfavourable high draw. That form was franked when the fourth horse finished runner-up in the Wokingham last weekend.

A lot of the credit must also go to jockey David Allen, on board for all four of Hazelrigg’s wins. He travels to Newcastle for his only ride of the night; a sign that the horse will be doing everything he can to win the 7.25 Gosforth Park Cup.
