Newcastle Races Tip: Boy The Bell

Greatly improved since the switch to Brian Ellison, he can continue on the upgrade.

The 4.30 at Newcastle is a trappy little contest with Klynch looking to complete a hat-trick. After a miserable second half of 2010, the Ruth Carr stable have hit form in the last couple of months with ten winners. As a result, she has several well handicapped horses that could run up sequences of wins.

Although Klynch is a winner in waiting he should be opposed at Newcastle. With plenty of pace drawn high, the race should develop under the stand’s rail. Klynch is drawn in stall two and could become marooned in the middle of the track. With good to firm ground forecast at the meeting, conditions are also against him. He has never won a race when the going has included the word ‘firm’ and Ruth Carr seems to agree, stating on her website; ‘Ease in the ground seems to help him.’

With the favourite accounted for, Boy The Bell can take advantage. Trainer Brian Ellison is having a marvellous season and seems to have improved this horse in the two runs since acquiring him. Twice a winner over six furlongs, he was predictably outpaced over the sharp five at Catterick. He managed to finish second that day in a quick time and was the only horse to make any headway from off the pace. The step up in trip will suit him.

Drawn in stall 12 he has the option of heading to the favoured stand’s rail, and with We’ll Deal Again next to him making the pace, he should get the perfect tow.
