Newcastle Tips: New Leyf

Down to his last winning mark and favourably berthed. Drawn near the pace and the favoured stand’s rail.

The stalls are positioned in the centre for the 6.20 Newcastle but with a capacity field lining up, runners will be spread right across the track. That means horses drawn high will be close to the favoured stand’s rail.

I’m sure this won’t have gone unnoticed by the connections of Gandalak. Drawn in stall 16, Danny Tudhope can use his mount’s early pace to grab the favoured stand’s rail. This could create a split in the field, with those drawn high enjoying a stronger pace.

This could work in favour of New Leyf, who has his first start for Dandy Nicholls this evening. The handicapper has given him a chance by lowering him to 81, his lowest mark for two years and his last winning mark.

Judged on his 2012 campaign, I don’t think his abilities have diminished, he just struggled to find his ground during a wet summer. With the going described as ‘good to firm’ and a favourable draw in stall 13, he should go well at 22/1 (BetVictor).
