Lay of the Day: Towbee

The spell of dry weather has come at the wrong time for Towbee in the 8.15 Ripon.

Racecourses are starting to mention the words ‘good to firm’ in their going reports and that spells bad news for certain horses.

Towbee managed to sneak a class 4 handicap on soft ground on his last start but the drying ground at Ripon won’t help his chances in the 8.15 contest.

Towbee Racing Post Ratings since 2012 (turf only)
Good to soft or softer: 71-83-87-27-31-85
Good or firmer: 38-39-36

When racing on a sound surface Towbee is yet to record an RPR above 40; that is a whopping 49lbs below his best RPR when racing with cut in the ground. Unless there is an unexpected downpour he looks up against it.
