Hennessy Gold Cup Tips: Unioniste

Only six and still an exciting prospect; could be revitalised after being treated for ulcers like stable companion Al Ferof.

John Hales saw his colours carried to victory last week at Ascot and he could nail a big race double in the Hennessy Gold Cup (3.00 Newbury) with his other star chaser Unioniste.

The 6-year-old has always promised plenty and looked like fulfilling his potential after a Listed win at Aintree in December. Sent off 9/2 for the Lexus he trailed in eighth. It was regarded as a disappointing run despite only being beaten 11 lengths in a tactical affair.

Thereafter he struggled carrying big weights in competitive handicaps but never disgraced himself.

In the off-season he was treated for ulcers, just like stable companion Al Ferof and we know what happened when he was put right!

A revitalised Unioniste is an exciting prospect and in receipt of weight from several of his main rivals he is a cracking bet at 18/1 (William Hill).
