Doc Hay On Call At Ripon

Previous course and distance winner and ran well on his seasonal reappearance despite the market suggesting he needed the run.

I backed Doc Hay last time out at Nottingham on the basis we didn’t know what sort of shape Pearl Secret would be in.

As it turns out Pearl Secret performed like a Group 1 horse, meanwhile Doc Hay drifted in the betting and looked in need of the run.

In the months ahead, a 4.75 length defeat at the hands of Pearl Secret might be very smart form.

As for this afternoon’s contest, Doc Hay has plenty in his favour. He is a previous course and distance winner, is only 1lbs above his last winning mark and his yard are in excellent form. David O’Meara has hit the ground running, sending out five winners in the last fortnight.

In stall 7, David Nolan has the option to race against the far-side rail, which is often the best place to be in sprints at Ripon. At 15/2 (BetVictor) he is a decent bet.
