Coral Sprint Trophy Tip: Joe Packet

Having blown the start when I tipped Joe Packet for the Portland, I am willing to give him a second chance in the 4.05 Coral Sprint Trophy at York. Since that poor race at Doncaster, Jonathan Portman’s four-year-old has been good as gold at the starting gate.

Stepped up to seven furlongs in his last two races, he has travelled with great fluency only for his stamina to give way in the last 200 yards. At Ascot, he was leading an excellent field of handicappers until the last furlong. He also raced away from the pace that day, so his run can be upgraded on two counts. With a strong pace guaranteed he should have the race set up for him at 20/1 with Victor Chandler.
