Coral Eclipse Tips: The Fugue

Could become a tactical affair and The Fugue can deliver a potent turn of foot in a steadily run race.

The Coral Eclipse (3.50 Sandown) is a fascinating renewal and with a small field it could become a tactical race.

In the Prince of Wales’s Stakes, Paul Hanagan got the fractions spot on as he almost stole the race on Mukhadram but unfortunately Al Kazeem proved too good on the day and wore him down close to the line.

In the build up to the Eclipse, William Haggas has suggested Mukhadram might not make the running, it could be a bluff but if he doesn’t lead there could be a complete absence of pace.

This scenario would suit the Ballydoyle pair of Mars and Deceleration of War who both look like milers but the biggest beneficiary will be The Fugue.

At Royal Ascot I discussed how The Fugue would struggle in a strongly run race, as it turns out she ran better than expected, but her main weapon is still her potent turn of foot.

She won the Nassau Stakes by quickening off a steady gallop and would have repeated the trick at the Breeders’ Cup with a clear run.

If the early pace in the Eclipse is moderate, she could win the sprint for home at 9/2 (Paddy Power).
