World Hurdle Tips: Monksland
Made notable headway off a slow pace on his return after a two-year absence. Could yet fulfil his potential.
It seems like Monksland has been around forever but he is still only an 8-year-old.
Third in the 2012 Neptune and a multiple Grade 2 winner, he has always been a smart horse but unfortunately he’s suffered with injuries.
Monksland made his first start in exactly two years in the Christmas Hurdle at Leopardstown and it couldn’t have been more encouraging.
Understandably ridden with caution in rear, Paul Carberry found himself in the wrong place when the race developed into a sprint for home.
Lieutenant Colonel and Jetson made the most of their prominent positions to finish 1-2 but Monksland caught the eye as he stormed home for third.
We haven’t seen the best of him yet and in a strongly run race he should go well at 14/1 (William Hill).
