Mares Hurdle Tip: Swing Bowler

Run well twice in the Betfair Hurdle and might improve on better ground; plus we get our money back if Quevega wins.

With Betfred refunding losing bets if Quevega wins the Mares Hurdle, they are tempting us to find something in opposition. Annie Power is heading to the World Hurdle leaving us with 19 horses.

In all honesty, I’m struggling to see how Quevega can be beaten, she is a 160+ rated horse running against mid-140 horses but this is jumps racing and things go wrong.

Our best hope of finding a non-Quevega shaped winner is looking to the unexposed horses in the hope they produce something the market hasn’t bargained for.

Swing Bowler has won five of her eight starts and might surprise people on better ground.

Last year she ran a fine third in the Betfair Hurdle and was the only horse to give My Tent Or Yours a fight. She flopped in the Mares Hurdle on her next start (sent off at 7/1) but that must have been down to injury because she then spent 11 months off the track.

The 7-year-old returned to action last month in the Betfair Hurdle, running another fine race to finish 4-lengths behind the winner, on ground softer than ideal.

Swing Bowler is scheduled to run at Sandown on Saturday but if she runs well her price will contract, if she performs poorly she probably won’t run at Cheltenham and because we are betting Non-Runner No-Bet we get our money back.

With potential downsides mitigated, including if Quevega wins, Swing Bowler looks a cracking bet at 12/1 with Betfred.
